The Meningie Football Club is the oldest Club in the River Murray Football League. The first recorded information on the Meningie Football Club was in 1898, however it is possible the club was formed before that date.
Meningie played against Point McLeay and Milang in those early days travelling across Lake Alexandrina by paddle boat to Milang.
In 1901 the team colours were red and blue and the Club was called the Lake Albert Football Club. A match between Meningie and Tailem Bend was recorded in 1905. In 1912 the colours were changed to a red jacket with blue stripes. They played against Milang, Wellington or Kingston.
In 1927 the Club colours were altered to royal blue with a red star on the front and back.
In 1930, the Lake Albert Football Association was formed consisting of Narrung, Coonalpyn, Tintinara, Point McLeay and Meningie. The Meningie Club Colors were then changed to the double blues.
Meningie joined the Murray Downs Football Association in 1935. They were the Double Blues and wore a dark blue guernsey with a light blue sash across the chest. In 1941 the Meningie Football Club joined the Lakes and Districts Association. The Association consisted of the Meningie, Narrung, Coonalpyn and two Point McLeay teams.
The Meningie Double Blues wore a dark blue guernsey with a light blue sash diagonal across the front.
Meningie were Premiership runner-ups in the Lakes and Districts Association in 1952 when they were defeated by Tintinara 14-10 to 10-5, the Meningie side however won the Premiership two years later in 1954 when they defeated Narrung 9-8 to 7-8. The Lakes and District Football Association disbanded at the end of 1954 and the shield remained at Meningie. The Meningie Club joined the River Murray Football League the following year (1955). In 1955 the Meningie Lakesides joined the River Murray Football League and changed their colours to Maroon and Gold. Meningie fielded an A and B Grade team only until 1962 when they first fielded a senior colts team and a junior colts team was entered the following year in 1963. In 1996 the Lakesiders changed identity to become the Meningie Bears and the team colours were changed to Maroon, gold and white.
